My latest letter to the House, Senate, and local newspaper editors:

Representative John Murtha recently asked for the immediate commencement of American military withdrawal from Iraq. What much of the media and all of the right-wing has been leaving out is a very vital noun there: "commencement", or beginning. Yes, we want the troops home, and yes we want them to start coming home now. That has nothing to do with every last one of them hoping on a plane and doing it tonight. What it does have to do with is a winning exit strategy; something the polls have been showing for quite some time is what most U.S. citezens want. I urge people to please gain some knowledge on a subject before taking sides and arguing. What Murtha introduced is not a "crazy-liberal-peacenic" act of pacifism. It's a logical plan to begin doing what is right. Refusing to discuss it and letting GOP cronies chop it up and misrepresent it as "immediate withdrawal" is a pitiful disgrace for democracy.

More Lying Christians: The Salvation Army

or:

Why I Now Boycott the Salvation Army

“I hated Christians”, the article begins. It then goes on to say, “I was such a devout Muslim that once I burned a church, and another time I tried to kill a Christian. One day, I decided to send my cows to trample all over a Christian’s farm.”

Does this man sound like a very “devout Muslim” to you? The Koran specifically forbids acts of violence, especially murder. “I was such a devout Muslim” is hardly the words that should precede the acts that this obviously deranged individual supposedly conducted.

Where did I read this article? In a magazine called “War Cry” distributed by the Salvation Army. The story for which the headline reads “From Persecutor to Praising Christ” is purportedly the tale of Abdullahi Solomon of Nigeria. Though, I personally believe the entire thing to have been made up. But, let’s pretend that this is what actually happened to this man named Solomon. He describes how, after doing terrible things to another person – a Christian – he had a dream. In this dream, Jesus came to him warning, “If you don’t stop, you’re going to die.” Jesus came again in a dream the next day, telling him to have the Christian man pray for him, again threatening, “If you don’t, you’re going to die.” Now, correct me if I’m wrong – which I’m not – but threatening to kill people was never something Jesus was famous for, nor has ever been known to do at all. So, if this did indeed happen to this man, Solomon, isn’t it much more likely, having just committed terrible crimes toward a fellow human, that he had a dream that night where - assuming he has a conscience - it got to him and he dreamt about being threatened by Jesus, who is highly revered by the man and represents, in the mind of this mad man, the very Christian whom he committed these acts against and everything to which he holds value..? Hmmm… No, I guess that’s just too darned logical, eh? Aw, hell. Let’s just all admit that Christians are the only ones who have the God-given right to commit random, senseless acts of violence and just be all around dicks to everyone who doesn’t agree 100% with them. I mean, after all, they are persecuted so much…right? *cough* BS *cough*

Please note that 5/1/2003 was "Mission Accomplished" according to GWB.
